Intent

Rawdon St. Peter’s C of E Primary School believes that physical education, activity, sport and health, experienced in a safe and supportive environment, is a unique and vital contributor to a pupil’s physical literacy and well-being.

Our school harnesses the importance of physical activity with view to empower our young people to ensure they have necessary skills to lead a life-long healthy lifestyle. To support this essential vision, we provide opportunities through both outdoor and active learning throughout the entire school curriculum - not just in PE.

We aim to provide a broad and balanced Physical Education curriculum which increases self-confidence teaches children to manage their bodies in various sporting activities. Progressive learning objectives, combined with sympathetic and varied teaching approaches, endeavour to provide stimulating, enjoyable and appropriately challenging learning experiences for all pupils. Differentiated and logically developed tasks, will ensure progression (irrespective of pupils’ability). Therefore, children will be motivated to further develop their individual potential and enjoy success. RSP is an inclusive school, which promotes opportunities for all, including a range of sporting competitions, participation festivals and events.

The activities adopted in our curriculum seek to provide pupils with opportunities to develop their creative and expressive abilities, through challenge and problem-solving. Children are encouraged to become resilient learners, developing their ability to successfully fail.

Through holistic approaches, pupils are encouraged to increase their knowledgeto appreciate the importance of a healthy lifestyle and to begin to understand the factors that affect health and fitness. This work is closely aligned with the school’s Physical Education, Activity and Sport Policy and its Healthy School Status.

 Implementation

Through quality teaching of knowledge, skills and vocabulary, across all strands of PE, all children will be challenged to unlock their own potential. Children will have the opportunities to develop this potential through co-operative and competitive activities, both within school and through extra-curricular, competitions and festivals. Cross-curricular themes will be adopted into the PE planning where appropriate to drive imaginative and reflective learning.

 Impact

Our children will have a vast array of different skills which are constantly developing as they follow their journey through education and life. We equip our young people to be cognitively, physically, socially and emotionally secure. Leadership opportunities will develop confidence and self-esteem along with improving independence and self-organisation.
