Rawdon St. Peter's C of E Primary School

Unlocking every child's potential

CW 13th April 2020 - from Reverend Helen

This is our special time together

Let us light the candle

I wonder if you remember when I invited you to join me on my ‘kindness campaign’ where we would all try and doing little acts of kindness whenever we could.

I think that being kind is one of the most important things we can do for one another and for ourselves.   I don’t know about you but I know how happy it makes me when I am kind.  The only way I can describe the feeling is comparing it to letting a piece of chocolate with popping candy and jelly beans melt in your mouth – do you know that feeling?  It is like being really sparkly and bubbly inside and you want to smile all the time, so I loved the idea of having lots of sparkly bubbly Rawdon St Peter's children bouncing around because they are being kind to their families, friends and communities during these very strange times.

The opposite of being kind is being unkind, when I do or say something I shouldn’t I feel the opposite of sparkly and bubbly. I feel like I have eaten something really horrible, like Harry Potter did when he had one of the Bertie Bots every flavoured beans and got sprout flavour.

At Trinity Rawdon we have a slogan and it starts with Sharing God’s love.  One of he things that we can do to be kind is to share.  Some people have been greedy during the past few weeks, they have taken food and things that other people may need so that shelves are empty in our supermarkets.

I recently found this little video about sharing and it really made me think.  God has given us a world where there is enough of everything for everyone, but there are always greedy people who take more than their fair share. We need to change this attitude and it starts with you – your generation so that you grow up to be people who share. Watch the video opposite.

Time for reflection

That little boy from India had nothing in the world, but he had a basic instinct in his life to be kind and to share with his friends. He knew that the best things in life are too good to keep for yourself and the best thing to do is to share them with other people.  When he was kind and when he shared, he got the best gift in the world – it gave him happiness, it made him sparkly and bubbly.

I believe we are all made to share and we are all made to be kind and we are all made to love each other and I also believe that the best thing to do with the great gifts in life, like ice cream and chocolate is to share them with other people.

Draw or make a representation of bubbles

Then each day this week, write in each bubble something kind that you have done. You may even wish to make separate bubbles to make a window display so others can see in  your street!

If you wish, say a prayer

  Father God,

Thank you for giving us the wonderful gift of love.                                                                 Thank you for the people that we love and the people who love us.                           Thank you for the feeling that we get when we are kind or when we share.           Help us each day to see the people who need us to love them,                                             To be kind to them and to share with them                                                                                         And when it feels hard remind us of the little boy with the ice cream.                         Give us big hearts to love and big eyes to see where we can make a difference.    This we pray in your name.   Amen

Below is one of our favourite hymns for you to join in with.  Click opposite to play the music.

Love is something if you give it away.

Love is something if you give it away, give it away, give it away.
love is something if you give it away, you end up having more.

It's just like a magic penny; Hold it tight and you won't have any;
Lend it, spend it, and you have so many, they'll roll all over the floor, for…

Love is something if you give it away, give it away, give it away.
love is something if you give it away, you end up having more.

So let’s go dancing till the break of day, and if there’s a piper, we can pay.                                For love is something if you give it away, you end up having more.

Love is something if you give it away, give it away, give it away.
love is something if you give it away, you end up having more.

Let us go out of this Collective Worship with kind and positive thoughts
